‘And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go to?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right? Am I wrong?
And you may say to yourself, “My God! What have I done?”

Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads

‘And it’s the damage that we do
And never know
It’s the words that we don’t say
That scare me so’

‘Accidents Will Happen’ by Elvis Costello

Maybe you’ve a nagging sense that there’s ‘something missing’ in your life and your relationships, that dispiriting ‘is that all there is?’ feeling of discomfort, or you’re experiencing shame about a specific event in your life, believe you’re out of step with how you’re ‘supposed to be’, keep becoming overwhelmed by anger or sadness, or have a very particular issue you want to tackle.

Among the presenting issues I work with are addiction, self-harm and eating disorders, anxiety, depression and trauma, health related issues Identity, culture and spirituality, relationships, family and children, stress and work, sex and sexuality.

Perhaps you don’t want to burden your friends and family with your ‘troubles’, perhaps partly because they may be players in those ‘troubles’. So many relationships in our lives are overly conditional – think of a parent saying to a child ‘Of course you don’t hate your baby brother/sister!’ and thereby implicitly instilling a sense that it’s not okay to feel something that’s actually perfectly normal.

Counselling can provide the safe space that enables reflection, working through, and liberation. By connecting with you in a non-judgemental way, that safe space is created, light can be shed on what may have previously been kept in the dark, and ways of coping, progressing and flourishing can be developed. There may well be laughter at times, as a more expansive, less self-limiting self emerges!
